I prefer to use the term “optimizing fertility” when treating patients with fertility challenges. I find that one of the biggest barriers to getting pregnant is the emotional component. The title “infertility” often
contributes to stress which only adds to the problem. Patients are often so focused on what’s wrong with them or their partner, they forget to look at the big picture which is getting themselves into an optimal state of health, both emotionally and physically.
Naturopathic medicine can be used simply from the nutritional standpoint. Ensuring that a person is getting all the important vitamins and minerals he or she needs is so important when optimizing fertility. Herbal medicine
can also be beneficial in addressing a hormone imbalance. For example, an imbalance of the estrogen/progesterone ratio can lead to fertility issues
and there are a number of great herbs that can correct this ratio. Acupuncture also works at balancing the hormones as well as increasing blood flow to the uterus.
Naturopathic medicine can be used at anytime during the fertility process. Whether it be months or weeks before a couple want to start trying to conceive or months or even years after, there is still a lot that can done from a natural approach. Naturopathic medicine can also be used as a compliment if one is undergoing conventional treatment.
